As a service to our patients we do not charge the customary $65 fee for the Velscope comprehensive oral cancer tissue exam, plus, we provide it at every 6 month visit.
Oral Cancer is a disease that can be tamed. If the disease is discovered in late stages, the 5-year survival rate is only 20%-to-30%. But when discovered in early stages, the survival rate leaps to 80%-to-90%. By supplementing the white light oral cancer dental exam with the VELscope system, I can see cancerous and precancerous lesions that might not be apparent to the naked eye. The VELscope system we use is the first product cleared by the FDA and Health Canada to see the earliest lesions.
To follow up on a positive finding we use Oral CD-X sampling and submit slides for evaluation and feedback on suspicious sites.
